IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM TOM JOYNER –
MAY 7: FINALIZING DETAILS AND PLANS FOR THE PARTY WITH A PURPOSE

This has been a long and hard week for so many of us who were looking forward to a Fantastic Voyage® to Mexico, but unfortunately the H1N1 bug put a stop to that one part of the plan.  We have been working tirelessly with Royal Caribbean since they announced their decision to reroute all ships scheduled to call ports in Mexico.  This includes not only our ship, Mariner of the Seas, but also ships calling on gulf ports like Cozumel and others.  The entire cruise industry has chosen not to call on ports in Mexico.  Royal Caribbean International will not be sailing to any ports in Mexico until at least June 14th.  They are concerned about the health and safety of the guests and crew aboard the ship and have informed us that that we will not be able to sail to Mexico on May 17th.

For those who have asked, Hawaii and Panama are too far, and we can’t sail in circles around the South Pacific. The ship is also just so big that it can’t go to some of the other suggestions like Catalina Islands.  The best itinerary for us, that would not affect our entertainment lineup, is to San Francisco and Victoria, British Columbia, two beautiful destinations, even if you’ve been before.  All options had us sailing north, and any other ports of call would have had an effect on the entertainment lineup and we knew you didn’t want that, so we chose the best ports that worked for all parties involved

Now I need all of you repeat cruisers, and Practice Team members, to tell the first timers that this cruise is about so much more than ports of call.  (Most of you all are too tired from partying to get off the ship anyway!)  The weather should be nice enough for the pool parties and 3-on-3 tournament.  Rev Al Sharpton is planning to be aboard broadcasting his radio show and we may have a few more surprise guests hopping aboard while we’re in San Fran.  And we now have enough men for a real singles mixer, which will be at the Solarium Pool!

To those of you who have called, texted, and called again, to reaffirm your commitment to the Tom Joyner Foundation and the good that we have done, I thank you.  You have told me you are with me no matter where we party.  You all are my soldiers, no matter what team we’re on in the water gun fight.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Please understand we wanted to have all of our facts straight before contacting you.  In addition to addressing your needs, we were very busy with negotiating with Royal Caribbean, the Dept. of Homeland Security, our entertainers, and a new golf course, The Presidio.  We could only provide you accurate information once we received it.  I’m positive this cruise will deliver everything it always has to you repeaters, and everything you hoped for you first timers.

Here is what we have been able to negotiate for all of our passengers

  • $100 onboard credit per passenger, regardless of stateroom class, on Fantastic Voyage 2009
  • $100 on board credit per passenger, regardless of stateroom class, on Fantastic Voyage 2010 (cabin must be booked by July 1, 2009) for those guests who sail with us onboard Mariner of the Seas on May 17th and on Fantastic Voyage 2010
  • $250 discount per stateroom for all Fantastic Voyage 2010 bookings made by July 1, 2009

You want to talk live to a person and we want to talk to you, too.  Please contact your Customer Service Representative if you have any questions or concerns.  We look forward to the most unique and FANTASTIC voyage ever!
