On Monday August 29, 2005 the lives of citizens living along the gulf coast of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana experienced a life altering devastation affecting this entire country.

The Tom Joyner Foundation recognizes that three Historically Black Colleges Universities- Dillard University, Southern University of New Orleans, and Xavier University- are located at the center of this unfortunate experience with a combined enrollment of more than 9,000 students. These students have lost their schools and are in need of a place to temporarily continue their education.

This Foundation has announced its support for students affected by this tragedy. This support will be for students who have transferred from Dillard, Southern University of New Orleans, or Xavier to another college or university. One thousand dollars ($1,000.00) per student is being made available to assist with tuition, books, and room and board. This offer will last until October 31, 2005 or until the funds are exhausted.

To access these funds please send an email to HBCURelief@blackamericaweb.com indicating your full name, school transferred from, and school transferred to, and a telephone number (cell phone or land phone) or email address.

We know this is not permanent, however this is our way of extending support to help students continue their plan to become productive citizens. We wish you the best of luck and look forward to supporting you.

Sincerely,

Thomas Joyner , Jr.

President and Chief Executive Officer
