This weekend, all eyes are on the NBA playoffs as the annual competition is a few games away from deciding who goes to the NBA Finals. In both the Eastern and Western conferences, veteran teams try to hold off their younger adversaries. New Edition is still on tour – seems like it’s been the whole year – and if you’re in the San Antonio area, you can catch them this weekend. “Snow White and the Hunstman” updates the old fable with some modern cinema wizardry and on television, it’s the Miss USA pageant.

For the music lover, today kicks off Black Music Month. And if you’re in Atlantic City, catch the weekend festivities honoring Tom Joyner. See full schedule of events below.

“It Worked For Me: In Life and Leadership” By Colin Powell

You’ve got to love the title of Colin Powell’s latest book. It’s as though he’s saying, hey, this is what I did to become one of the most respected men in the nation, but it might not work as well for you. That’s kind of refreshing considering the pompousness some of these celebrated authors have. As you can expect, Powell’s book extols the virtues of discipline, hard work and respect for self and others, through his 13 rules for success. As he said, it worked for him and as he’s lived his example, you might get something out of it as well. Colin Powel talks about his new book here:

“When It All Falls Apart: Find Healing, Joy and Victory Through the Pain” by Riva Tims

The former pastor’s wife wasn’t immune to the ups and downs that come from living even she was the First Lady of a church. Here’s her story of how she persevered despite the challenges of divorce and the untimely and mysterious death of her ex-husband.

Watch video of Riva Tims talking about her ex-husband’s life and death.
