Mitt Romney got busted – and he knows it.

While speaking privately – and candidly — to his wealthy donors, Romney doesn’t hide his complete contempt for poor Americans and middle-class citizens who are struggling every day just to make ends meet.

How do I know? I listened carefully to Romney, an arrogant, unapologetic hypocrite.

The billionaire Republican candidate for president shared his private thoughts with a small group of well-heeled supporters during a recent fundraising dinner where he was secretly videotaped. The video was posted Monday on the liberal website motherjones.com.

Watch video below.

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what,” Romney told donors. “All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.

"[My] job is not to worry about those people,” Romney said. “I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

So who exactly are these so-called “victims” who Romney describes as freeloaders who are not taking personal responsibility? He tries unsuccessfully to be sly, but it sounds suspiciously like Romney’s not-so-subtle code for African-Americans and people of color. Romney has drawn a proverbial line in the sand between the two Americas, those who have plenty of money and those who don't. And he's not ashamed to say he's writing off Americans who can't afford membership to his country club.

Romney was quite comfortable talking in plain terms to his rich, predominantly white base: It’s clear that Romney does not respect the poor; he doesn’t care about helping the disenfranchised and those who are less fortunate and he’s openly deceitful because he pretends to embrace public service but could care less about the public.

“It's shocking that a candidate for President of the United States would go behind closed doors and declare to a group of wealthy donors that half the American people view themselves as ‘victims,’ entitled to handouts, and are unwilling to take ‘personal responsibility’ for their lives,” Obama Campaign Manager Jim Messina said in a statement Monday.  It’s hard to serve as president for all Americans when you’ve disdainfully written off half the nation.”

Less than two months before Election Day – 49 days to be exact — Romney’s disrespect for the underprivileged is not limited to African-Americans: White voters who are not wealthy should also be very worried about Romney’s comments and how their lives will forever be changed if Romney is elected to the White House.

“Here was Romney raw and unplugged—sort of unscripted,” David Corn wrote on motherjones.com. “With this crowd of fellow millionaires, he apparently felt free to utter what he really believes and would never dare say out in the open.”

“He displayed a high degree of disgust for nearly half of his fellow citizens, lumping all Obama voters into a mass of shiftless moochers who don't contribute much, if anything, to society, and he indicated that he viewed the election as a battle between strivers (such as himself and the donors before him) and parasitic free-riders who lack character, fortitude, and initiative,” Corn wrote.

Romney – the real Romney – also talked about his family background and his father who was born in Mexico. But he also joked inappropriately about Mexicans – even as he courted Hispanic voters on the campaign trail this week.

"Had he been born of Mexican parents, I'd have a better shot of winning this," Romney said at the private fundraiser.

“We are having a much harder time with Hispanic voters," Romney added, "and if the Hispanic voting bloc becomes as committed to the Democrats as the African-American voting block has in the past, why, we're in trouble as a party and, I think, as a nation."

This is why Romney’s Republicans are mounting a fierce voter suppression campaign where many states are now requiring multiple forms of identification, asking for proof of citizenship, shortening the time for absentee voting days, limiting voter registration drives and initiatives, and making it harder to restore voting rights for felons.

More than five million African-Americans and people of color could be impacted by these voter suppression laws — low-income and elderly citizens who cannot afford multiple forms of ID.

Meanwhile, during the GOP fundraiser, Romney also felt compelled to talk proudly about his wealth before a crowd where money is not a concern, where paying bills is not a struggle, and where multi-million-dollar trust funds are a normal part of family life.

"There is a perception, 'Oh, we were born with a silver spoon, he never had to earn anything and so forth.' Frankly, I was born with a silver spoon, which is the greatest gift you can have: which is to get born in America," Romney said.

The Romney campaign tried to downplay another Romney political gaffe."

“Mitt Romney wants to help all Americans struggling in the Obama economy,” Romney communications director Gail Gitcho said in a statement. “As the governor has made clear all year, he is concerned about the growing number of people who are dependent on the federal government, including the record number of people who are on food stamps, nearly one in six Americans in poverty, and the 23 million Americans who are struggling to find work.”

Romney is all about straight talk – as long as he’s talking privately to other millionaires.

And for everyone else: You’re on your own. Good luck.

Now you know.
